How Many Dogs Is Tooooo Many?

I have four dogs. I walk in the house and wonder how this happened?

Rest assured I was there when each was adopted or brought to my home and everyone looked at me with expectant eyes wondering if this one will be saved.  They all are.  They all will be.

I think it stems from healing significant traumas in my life.  Times I felt abandoned or set aside.  every human has felt this in some way, but I seemed to have imprinted a sense of un-lovable-ness to myself as a child and it only took one little Fritzy the chihuahua to heal me.  She really made me feel so worthy and loved at a time when I just couldn't see that in myself.  She became a cure, and with her sudden loss came a most deserving lesson.

After failure I am still lovable.  I am still worthy.  As a human, I am equal to others when it comes to my rights in this world.  As a human I have a responsibility to be a voice to those who cannot speak for, themselves.  Human or animal.

With each dose of medicine since (each new dog), I have discovered an appreciation for the unspoken glance, quiet patience, thoughtful regard, joyful spirit and unending love that one being gives another.

(Forehead slap)

Stupefied!

Here I am 3 years later and I have not found much common sense, except what was in my couch cushions.

Renewing my commitment to this opportunity to express a need for equality and kindness.

Common Sense: Correct change or a fashion statement?

I find myself at odds as Chicago enters its first non- incumbant bi-partisan mayoral election. I am stupefied by the idiotic rhetoric attitudes and complete lack of common sense.  It seems to have been doled out in truckloads in the fifties and bucolic grandmothers seem to still be able to share a parcel here and there, but now-a-days its just confused for correct change.

Common Sense.

Vital to our existence and entirely out of fashion.

How do we embrace the things that bring us happiness without the basics in "Common Sense"

     All people are equal,
     See the good in others,
     Be kind,
     Be thoughtful,
     Listen politely,
     Let others be heard,
     Speak up when its your turn,
     If you don't have something nice to say, shut yer trap.

All that stuff.

So maybe here and there over the next few months, I can find things that embrace the joys of common sense and also the ways we make it something entirely different.
